PRESCHOOL classmates of a three-year-old boy who has had a brain tumour removed have given thanks to the hospital where he underwent his vital surgery.

Doctors discovered that Jacob Harrison, a pupil at Little Browsers Preschool in Cinnamon Brow, had the tumour after he collapsed around a month ago.

Only nine days later, the Great Sankey youngster had this removed by surgeons at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

Now the preschool, which is based at Cinnamon Brow CE Primary School, is raising funds for the hospital as a thank you for Jacob’s treatment.

Last Wednesday, June 12, around 30 toddlers took part in a sponsored cycle at the Perth Close site.

Deputy preschool manager Ann Batley said: “The care Jacob received at Alder Hey was really good.

“Around two days after his operation he was allowed home, and he was actually up and playing in his room later the same day.

“About a week later, he came in to see us and he was running around everywhere.

“It’s amazing how resilient children are – if it was one of us, I think we’d still be laying in bed.

“I think he was completely unaware of how serious it was.”

Little Browsers Preschool is hoping to raise a total of £1,000 for Alder Hey – with further events including a staff sleepover and summer fair planned.

Ann added: “We’re also donating craft items that can go directly to the ward he was on, so that the children won’t be bored when they’re in hospital.

“With a bit of a push, hopefully we will reach that £1,000 target.

“Jacob is recovering now and waiting for tests to see whether he’ll need any further treatment, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed for him."
