A WIRRAL MP has pledged his support for unpaid carers across Birkenhead as part of a national awareness week.

Birkenhead MP Frank Field attended an event to celebrate the contribution that carers make to our area as part of Carers Week 2019.

Spanning from 10 to 16 June, Carers Week recognises the vital contribution made by those caring for someone living with an illness, disability, mental health condition or as they get older.

Research suggests that there could be many more people acting as unpaid carers to their family and friends.

Mr Field said: "Carers make a huge contribution to our society, providing vital and often hidden support to friends and family members.

"That is why I am supporting Carers Week 2019 and encouraging individuals and organisations across Birkenhead to think about what more they can do to get carers connected to support and ensure carers feel valued and supported.”

Charities supporting Carers Week 2019 are Carers UK, Age UK, Carers Trust, Motor Neurone Disease Association, MS Society, Rethink Mental Illness and Sense.

These charities are calling on individuals throughout the UK to help improve the lives of carers by providing practical and financial support.
