A GOLFER has denied sexually abusing an underage girl, claiming none of the alleged incidents ever happened.

Derek Craik, of Oxford Road, Frilford Heath, took the stand in his trial at Oxford Crown Court this afternoon.

Facing six counts of historical indecent assault relating to alleged behaviour at Chipping Norton golf club in the early 2000s, Craik, 49, repeatedly said he had no knowledge of these events.

Asked if he had ever been left alone with the girl on the 18-hole course or taken her out on a golf buggy, he said no as he would have been 'too busy' at the time.

The golf course has very few secluded areas, according to Craik who added: "There is not a hole where you would not be seen from another hole"

He said CCTV would have captured the part of the shop where some of the alleged touching is said to have taken place but admitted the tapes were wiped if no incidents were reported.

When told his alleged victim had said he was wearing 'St Michael' branded boxer shorts, he claimed he had never worn boxer shorts in his life.

But asked if he had ever worn this brand of underwear, he said he couldn't say as he had 'never bought his own pants.'

He went on to say although he had given the girl a lift home in his car on one occasion, nothing sexual had happened.

The trial continues.
