POLICE have confirmed a body has been recovered from the river in Chester.
It follows a ‘police incident’ near the Old Dee Bridge.
Police at the scene in Chester
A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “At 6.08am this morning (June 6) police and fire were called to the River Dee following a report of a body in the river.
“Firefighters launched two rafts into the river and recovered the body.
“Officers are in the early stages of working to establish the identity of the deceased and the circumstances of their death."
The Old Dee Bridge was shut for a short time whilst the recovery took place. The bridge has now been reopened to traffic but not pedestrians. Souters Lane has been closed to all traffic.

The Old Dee Bridge is currently closed in both directions whilst we deal with an incident. Please avoid the area - there is likely to be increased traffic congestion this morning. pic.twitter.com/lq3X2XDSuk

An underwater search team has been searching the River Dee in Saltney Ferry and Chester for a pensioner missing for almost two weeks.
Colin Purton has been missing from his home in Penyffordd since Wednesday, May 22, but James Wilson, Cheshire Police force incident manager, said: “The body has not yet been formally identified.”
