PLANS to build four new self-contained changing rooms and community hub at Prenton Rugby Club have been approved by councillors.

Those behind the development say it will allow the changing rooms and showers to be demolished, creating a much lager main hall allowing it to be come a much-needed community hub that can cater for various activities.

The club has launched a fundraising campaign to raise funds for project and is holding an open day on June 22 so people can see the plans.

Starting at 1pm, the event will feature a free BBQ, light refreshments and bouncy castle.

Brian Elkerton, who is leading the development, said it would allow the changing rooms and showers to be demolished, creating a much lager main hall allowing it to be come a much-needed community hub that can cater for various activities.

He told the Globe today: "It has been a long process but with the support from the ward councillors, Allan Dollery, Prenton residents chair and Wirral Council, we have finally got there.

"We have recently carried out a door knock with Involve Northwest in the prenton area the feed back was very positive.

"The new facilities including the extended main hall, new lounge and cross-fit gym."

He continued: "We have had plenty of interest from various groups looking to use the hub as it will be open seven days a week.

"The new larger hall can be used for various functions that can also cater for 160 seated.

"As well as giving the club long term financial security, our aim is to give the members fabulous facilities creating a fantastic atmosphere for players, fans family and friends the rest will follow.

"We are also in discussions with various groups about the installation of a floodlit 3g pitch on our side pitch.

"It's all very exciting times at Prenton."
