TRANMERE Rovers captain Steve McNulty will leave the club when his contract expires next month, it has been confirmed.

The 35-year-old defender, who has made over 150 appearances for Tranmere Rovers, played an integral role in helping the club secure back to back promotions from the National League to Sky Bet League One.

His contract expires on June 30.

Steve will always be recognised as a Tranmere Rovers Club legend, having lifted two Play-Off trophies at Wembley Stadium.

His final appearance for Rovers came last weekend in the 1-0 win against Newport County at the national stadium.

Manager Micky Mellon said: "Steve is a real leader and captain. He is one of the most influential players I have had in my managerial career.

"He will go down as a Tranmere Rovers legend and I wish him all the success for his next steps in his career."

Chairman Mark Palios added: "Steve is a true Tranmere Rovers legend, and he has been instrumental to our success in securing our return to League One.

"He is a leader both on and off the field.

"We cannot thank Steve enough for the contribution he has made since arriving in 2015. We would like to wish Steve all the best for the future."

Tranmere Rovers can also confirm the departures of Ben Tollitt, James Devine and Paddy Wharton and wish the trio the best of luck for the future.

Due to the fact celebrations have just come to an end following promotion to Sky Bet League One, the first team management and squad have now gone away on their well-deserved holidays.

Conversations are currently on going with the first team squad and the club will update with any announcements.
