SEVEN fire engines were called to an industrial estate in Widnes to tackle a blaze involving 200 tyres.
The alarm was raised at 2.45pm yesterday, Saturday, after thick black smoke was spotted across the town centre.
A Cheshire Fire spokesman said: "Firefighters attended to reports of black smoke seen near to Desoto Road in Widnes.
"The fire, involving a large skip full of up to 200 tyres, was extinguished using three main jets and a hose reel jet.
"Crews monitored the fire throughout the night by using a thermal imaging camera to check for hot spots and dampened down the area using one main jet."
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
