FANS of back-to-back promotion winners Tranmere Rovers are being invited to celebrate with the team at a civic reception and celebration event in Hamilton Square.

The event, hosted by Wirral Council and the Mayor of Wirral, will get started around 2pm on Bank Holiday Monday, May 27.

The council are encouraging fans to attend, and bring their flags, scarves and banners from Wembley to give the team the reception they deserve.

New leader of Wirral Council, Cllr Pat Hackett, said: “We’re so proud of the team. To secure successive promotions in such competitive leagues is nothing short of extraordinary.

“We all remember the glory days at Prenton Park, when we enjoyed some magical nights with Johnny King or John Aldridge leading the team.

“It’s so exciting that the current generation – led so superbly by Nicola and Mark Palios in the boardroom and Micky Mellon on the touchline – are writing their own pages in the history books.

“We can’t wait to welcome the whole team back to Wirral and hope to see the fans pack out Hamilton Square for yet another promotion party.”

During the event, the players will be congratulated by the Mayor of Wirral and Council Leader, before appearing on the balcony of Birkenhead Town Hall, overlooking Hamilton Square, to thank fans for their support and raise the Play-Off Trophy aloft.

Tranmere Rovers Chairman Mark Palios said: “Wirral Council is part of the context within which the Club lives. I see the future of the Club inextricably linked to working more closely with Wirral Council.

“The Club is an asset of the community and can help the council deliver on its mandate. In turn, the council can help the Club achieve its potential and protect the Club for future generations.

“It is sure to be another memorable day on Monday and we hope to see as many Tranmere Rovers supporters as possible turn out in force to celebrate promotion to League One.”

Fans are also being advised that parking is limited around Hamilton Square, and are encouraged to use public transport or car share wherever possible.
