AS a member of the West Kirby Promenaders Bowls Club, I write to complain about the arrogant attitude of our local authority.

We held our pre-season meeting on March 21 as the bowling season was due to start on March 25.

We were informed just after the meeting that our green would not be available "until after Easter", but that no reduction in green cost would even be considered as we “can play on any green in Wirral."

This was later amended to an offer for "exclusive use" of the Grange in Moreton - five miles away.

Our green, along with the seven others in West Wirral, is still in a very bad state; so much so that we have now been informed it will be closed for remedial attention for the rest of the season.

The good news - we will not have to pay £1,029 in green fees.

Nearly 40, mostly elderly members and at least seven prospective members will now miss out on regular exercise and social activity until next March.

Would golfers, footballers or any other sporting groups be treated like this?

Peter Ryan, West Kirby.
