I ATTENDED the Wirral Council meeting on Tuesday May 14, when councillors elected the new leader of the council.
There were two candidates who presented their credentials, Ian Lewis (Conservative) and Pat Hackett (Labour).
For me, as an apolitical bystander, there was one outstanding candidate and that was Ian Lewis (no relation).
When it came to the vote Hackett took it by 31 votes to 25, underlining the grip that the Labour Party has on its councillors.
However, what was really disappointing is that there were ten abstentions!
What are these councillors there for if they don’t fulfil their obligations to make decisions on behalf of the people of Wirral?
Disgraceful.
Richard Lewis by email.
