A LAUNCH party for this year's Wirral Earth Festival will take place next month.

Organised by community group Transition Town West Kirby the event will be held on June 8 at St Bridget's Church in West Kirby.

It will feature live music and fun activities for people of all ages. Tickets are £8 for adults and £4 for children.

The Wirral Earth festival, now in its seventh year, will be held on September 21. It will feature music, storytelling performances, food and drink stalls, community activities, workshops and much more.

It is entirely volunteer-led and receives no external funding.

Organisers are asking supporters to donate to the festival to ensure this year's event is the best one yet.

Sebastian Gahan from Transition Towns West Kirby said: "We are working hard to create a fun filled festival for September 2019.

"We have wanted to offer a large summer event for some time now and this fundraiser is the perfect opportunity to do just that whilst also raising funds for this year's festival.

"We have also launched a crowdfunding campaign through JustGiving which we would encourage people to support if they can't make our launch event.

"The event in June will offer a taster of the main festival with live music and entertainment, storytelling, family activities and more.

"We believe this is a great opportunity to not only come together and support an important community event, but also to start a conversation about the greater issues around climate change and the environment and to highlight the activities Transition Town West Kirby offers."

2019 marks Liverpool City Region’s Year of the Environment. Wirral Earth Festival offers a unique opportunity for people from across the region to come together to celebrate the earth and promote environmental issues.

The festival is backed by Wirral West MP Margaret Greenwood, who said: "It is a fantastic event and one of the highlights in the West Kirby calendar.

"Wirral Earth Festival offers a fun, inclusive and welcoming space to celebrate the environment and our role in protecting the natural world.

"Local volunteers do an amazing job to bring the Earth Festival to West Kirby.

"It really is a highly enjoyable community event.

"I would encourage anyone who is interested in supporting the festival to attend the launch party on June 8 or consider donating via the festival’s JustGiving page."
