A YOUNG man urinated on a Chester hotel floor and smashed a bin through a car windscreen after his boyfriend locked him out of their room, a court heard.

William Gateley, 20, was spotted by the night porter trying to open a number of doors at the four-star DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Hoole in the early hours of March 4 this year.

“He said his boyfriend had locked him out,” prosecutor Rob Youds told Chester Magistrates Court on Friday (May 17). “He was then seen knocking on other doors.”

Gateley, of Padstow Road, Greasby, Wirral, then disappeared but was swiftly found urinating on “plastic flooring” at the hotel.

When challenged he gave three different names before wandering out of the reception area.

“The night porter then saw him pick up a bin with two hands and smash the window of a Kia Ceed,” Mr Youds said.

Police were called and Gateley, who was described as drunk and incoherent, was arrested.

He later made full admissions in his police interview but claimed he had no recollection of the incident.

In his defence, the court heard that Gateley has no previous convictions and the incident was “just a drunken piece of misbehaviour”.

He was fined £100 for causing criminal damage and was ordered to pay a whopping £2,780 in compensation to the owner of the Kia, on top of £85 court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

His mum offered to pay the full amount within 28 days.
