I WRITE in response to the recent letter from Carol Whitby regarding the changes to the State Pension Age about which 1950s born women were not given sufficient notice.

A Freedom of Information request has revealed that up to 20,000 women in Wirral have been affected by this, losing, in some cases, up to £42,000-plus in pension payments.

In recent months shoppers on the Croft Retail Park in Bromborough will have seen a group of women demonstrating to raise awareness of this grave injustice every Saturday at noon.

On May 11, this awareness raising moved to West Kirby and we hope to be at the junction of Dee Lane/Banks Road at noon every Saturday for the next few weeks and would welcome others to come and join us including those from other pension justice groups.

The plan for coming months is to eventually move on to places in the other two Wirral constituencies, depending on the outcome of the judicial review on June 5 and June 6, although the judgement is not likely to be announced for several weeks after the hearing.
