THERE are just over 24 hours to go until Tranmere Rovers kick off their League Two play-off campaign.

Micky Mellon's squad will take on Mark Cooper's Forest Green under the Prenton Park floodlights tomorrow (7.45pm kick-off).

The two sides meet again in the play-off's second leg at New Lawn on Monday (7.45pm).

At stake is a place in the final at Wembley two weeks on Saturday, May 25.

Excitement is building as the promotion battle intensifies.

During a press conference at the club’s Solar Campus training ground this afternoon, Mellon said was looking forward to an exciting weekend's football the chance for a third play-off campaign.

He is optimistic about Tranmere's play-off chances after they ended the regular season in sixth position and cannot wait for supporters to "Pack the Park" as Rovers' push for a second successive promotion nears the end.

Looking forward to tomorrow's game, he said: "We'll be ready and good to go.

"They've got a way of playing that's been designed and formed for 46 league and cup games, so we'll try and take that into the games that we're going into, of course in a different environment, for a cup competition.

"It's a play-off game, we know that it's the best four teams in the league season.

"So you always know it's going to be tough and the margins will be important, but we go into it with respect for all the teams as they've all done well this season, so we will just make sure we do the best that we can to get the focus and mentality right for all the games.

"We like playing Friday nights, so anything that we can use to get the little marginal gains we will.

"We're looking forward to it."

Assessing his side's fitness ahead of tomorrow, Mellon added: "They're all training, so everyone we want to be available will be available.

"We will go out there and give it a good shot.

"It has been a long, hard season, so it was important to try to make sure that we gave ourselves the best chance to get the best team that we have available onto the pitch."

Summing up the mood of excitement around the club as the countdown to play-offs continues, goalkeeper Scott Davies said: "We've worked hard all season to get to this position.

"You're doing well when you're playing in big games, playing in play-off games and playing on TV.

"So enjoy it, savour it and, most importantly, take part and hopefully we'll get the right result."

Davies has been through five play-offs so far in his career and said that experience has helped as he prepares for the challenge facing the team on Friday and Monday.

He said: "We're lucky enough, in some respects, that we play for a big club.

"Looking at the attendances for the last six or seven weeks, they have been big crowds, so every game's been a big game. So we're used to that.

"We always want to win big football and there's the added prize of a final at Wembley, so the pressure's on us to win.

"What will be will be, but we achieved a lot in a small space of time."
