ROCK Ferry Operatic Society's stage Seussical the Musical! next week.

The show - featuring Dr Seuss characters The Cat in the Hat, Horton The Elephant, Yurtle The Turtle, Jojo, Things 1 & 2 - is at The Gladstone Theatre in Port Sunlight from Thursday to Saturday (May 16-18).

Based around the story of Horton Hears a Who, it is the tale of Horton, an elephant who hears a noise coming from a speck of dust on a clover and commits himself to protecting it and 'the Whos' who live on it.

Among them is Jojo, a misfit Who who "doesn't think normal thinks" and struggles to find his place in the tiny Who society.

Gertrude McFuzz (played by Rebecca Hulse) tries to catch the attention of her love - the kind and compassionate Horton.

Through mishaps and adventures, these unique characters finally find what they seek - their places in their world.

Jason Collinson plays Horton while son Harry takes on the role of JoJo.

Based on the works of American children's author, political cartoonist, and animator Dr Seuss, the show features music by Stephen Flaherty, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and was co-created by Monty Python star, actor, musician and writer Eric Idle.

Performances start at 7.30pm, with a 2.30pm Saturday matinee 2.30pm.
