A POPULAR boardwalk linking West Kirby beach and Hoylake’s Red Rocks is to undergo “significant repair” and ongoing maintenance.
The work was agreed by the council, following a campaign by West Kirby and Hoylake councillors Andrew Gardner, Tony Cox and recently-elected Alison Wright.
The boardwalk is used by dog walkers and cyclists. Its condition will be assessed every six months.
Councillor Gardner said: “I’m delighted that the council has listened to local campaigners on this, myself and colleagues have been working since last year with officers on what was a very complicated issue”.
Councillor Cox said: “Clearly the boardwalk couldn’t be left deteriorating as it was and it’s great news that after a lot of work it will soon be a safe and viable structure once again for all to enjoy”
And Cllr Wright added: “Knocking on doors as we do through the year the boardwalk is held in great affection.
“I’m very pleased with this news”.
The boardwalk was constructed in the early 1980s.
