AN Easter event hosted The Green Hut in Moreton helped raise £160 for the New Brighton lifeboat.

The event, on Saturday, April 20, saw a display of classic cars and entertainment from a marching band alongside a performance from busker Ian Heath at Moreton Common.

Ian was asked to busk for a charity of his choice by the owner of The Green Hut, Ian McGinn and chose RNLI New Brighton lifeboat.

On the day he managed to collect around £76 which he rounded up to £80 before owner Ian decided to match the amount.

Ian told the Globe: "I arrived and was set up by 11am just as the classic cars were arriving followed very soon by the marching band.

"By this time the car park was full and there were people milling about enjoying the sunshine.

"The ‘Wirral Sound’ band leader decided that marching was not safe so they set up near the entrance and gave us all forty-five minutes of rousing music encompassing all genres from traditional ‘brass band style’ to pops and country.

"During the day I played three sets which included standards, country, pop music and ‘shadows’ instrumentals and a few of my own compositions also.

"When I told Mr McGinn the total I had raised on the day, he immediately offered to double the amount, which I thought was very generous.

"On Wednesday, April 24 I took the cash down to the New Brighton Lifeboat Station and handed it over to two lovely lady volunteers Sandra Smith and Irene Jones.

"We had a good laugh and we all parted with smiles on our faces.

"I would like to thank Ian for giving me the opportunity to busk outside his cafe (thanks for the great fish ‘n’ chips) and to all the members of the public who donated."
