I READ the recent article about Arriva 464 services failing to pick up children on their way to school because of overcrowded buses.

Wirral Globe's Facebook page drew many comments from parents saying this is happening on many routes.

People with disabilities and everyone else just trying to get from A-to-B suffer as well.

Most schools have a strict policy on lateness and children are likely to end up in detention for being late more than once or twice a term. Parents are under a lot of pressure to make sure they arrive on time.

We have all seen the car chaos around our schools.

The government, schools, local campaigners all urge parents to stop driving children to school to make the roads safer and to cut down on air pollution.

But if parents can't rely on bus operators to run a reliable service is it any wonder so many drive to school instead?

And for families that don't have access to a car, unreliable bus services is more than just annoying, it's deeply unfair.

If we want to end the traffic chaos around schools, clean up our dirty air and create a fairer society bus services need to be brought back into public control.
