AS a regular dog walker in Saughall Massie I have watched the new Community Fire Station grow from open heathland to not a bad looking building.

The contractor's approach to the build has to be commended.

I, and many like me, will wonder at the missed opportunity to support public opinion.

Why were solar panels not built in to the plans?

Why was permission not requested to erect a wind turbine?

Has water collection and re-use been employed in the build?

We can all see that some effort has gone into making an unwanted facility pleasing to the passing eye and the landscaped gardens are a good idea too.

However all of the above innovation makes sense.

Indeed many councils are fitting solar panels [retrospectively] to their housing stock, the technology being well proven.

There would surely be congratulations due to any council minded to pay more than lip service to the problems of environmental damage, when the whole world knows that such schemes are cheapest fitted at time of build.

Come on WBC you talk of supporting the community.

Less foolish [golf resort] schemes and more real change for the better.
