A HUGE two-day music festival aiming to spark a change in Wirral music is set to take place in Birkenhead.
Landing on August bank holiday (Friday 23 to Saturday 24), Future Yard Festival aims to re-imagine the town's unique venues and spaces while celebrating new music.
Part of Wirral's Borough of Culture year, the event will spread across four venues; Birkenhead Town Hall, Birkenhead Priory, Bloom Building and Gallagher's.
Headlining the event is Wirral's finest Bill Ryder-Jones and London songstress Anna Calvi who are set to grace the Birkenhead Town Hall stage.
Many other artists have also been revealed including; Nilüfer Yanya, Stella Donnelly, Forest Swords Presents... Pylon, Queen Zee, Eyesore & The Jinx, Bill Nickson, Seatbelts, SPQR, Beija Flo, Lo Five, Wild Fruit Art Collective, Tori Cross, Munkey Junkey, Spilt and Uncle Jane.
A spokesman for the event said: "The festival will present some of todays most exceptional and essential national and international artists – alongside the most exciting new local talent – within Birkenhead’s beautiful iconic spaces.
"Welcome one, welcome all; to weird, wonderful, Wirral.
"We populated the world’s oceans with great liners. We also populated the world’s radio waves and stages with some of the most fabulous and gloriously eccentric music you’ve heard; Bill Ryder-Jones, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, Half Man Half Biscuit, Elvis Costello, The Coral, Forest Swords, Evian Christ, Hooton Tennis Club, Queen Zee, Zuzu… We could go on.
"John Peel – our most famous Wirral son – shaped the music landscape as we all know it today.
"But, here’s the issue; there is not a single music venue or festival dedicated to celebrating new music in Birkenhead.
"For a place with music in its DNA, this is a missed opportunity.
"Not only that, but it is depriving the would-be music makers of tomorrow and the music lovers of today.
"Future Yard is here to change that."
Weekend wristbands cost £40 and will go on sale on Friday, April 19 via http://futureyard.org/
