CCTV images have been released after staff at a Birkenhead bookmakers were threatened with a knife for cash.

Police received a report at around 7pm on Monday, February 4, that a man had entered Betfred on Princes Pavement and threatened staff with a knife.

He stole cash and then ran away from the shop.

Staff were unhurt but left 'extremely distressed' after the incident.

Detectives have no issued a CCTV image of a man that they believe could have vital information to help their investigation.

Detective inspector Paul Parry said: "The member of staff was thankfully unhurt but was understandably left extremely distressed by their ordeal.

“We have provided support to the victim as they come to terms with the effect of this man’s despicable actions, and for the sake of the victim and the wider public we are determined to bring the offender to justice.

"I would appeal to anyone who recognises the man in the image or who has any information about the incident itself to come forward.

"I want to assure all bookmakers and other businesses that we will continue to work with them to advise on the best security measures that can be taken, and will do everything possible to identify the offender in this case.”
