WALLASEY food fair and makers market has a new manager.

John Jones took on the role when Sally Thornton, who founded the market, stepped down earlier this year.

John, a seasoned food producer, is chair of Conwy Farmers' Market and trades at other food fairs around Wirral, including Liverpool and North Wales.

He has been a stallholder at Wallasey since the venture was set up by Sally in 2014 and been involved in the 'farmer's market' movement since its inception.

Paying tribute to his predecessor, John said: "We'll be continuing Sally's excellent work setting up and running the market.

"I've been involved in the farmers' market movement since it started, and really believe in them.

"They benefit the local economy and the community.

"The success of the market is about the integrity of the produce, which has to be local and sustainable.

"We are a place where fledgling businesses can bring their products to customers, sometimes for the first time. There's nothing like them."

Sally agrees: "We're in safe hands. John has been with the market from the day we opened in 2014.

"He's very experienced, so I know he will do a great job.

"I would like to thank everyone for their continued support over the years. I'm sure John will receive the same encouragement and support."
