IF you're new to Wallasey, want to make new friends, or just don't get out much, a new initiative could make a big difference to your life.

Local mum, Claire Carson, has set up Tuesday morning get-togethers at Wallasey Village United Reformed Church to help people get together, chat, and enjoy quality time with other residents.

Claire launched the local project after hearing that a survey by Good Morning Britain had found more than half of people in Britain felt lonely after losing someone they were close to.

A third also said the loss had had a detrimental effect on their mental health.

This struck a chord with Claire, who - as a young mum - had found Thursday morning Little Stars playgroup at Wallasey Village URC 'really helpful,' to help with meeting other local parents.

She said: "It was so helpful when I needed support and companionship as a young mum".

So she set about organising a Tuesday morning get together to encourage people to meet up in an informal and friendly setting.

It has proved highly successful so far, and she plans to organise optional events and other activities to broaden the appeal.

Claire said: "I thought Good Morning Britain's campaign was a great, so I decided to do something closer to home.

"We welcome adults of any age.

"Guests have included the fantastic Marc Kenny who kindly came to sing for us all and we're looking at games of bingo, entertainment, trips and lunches out as a future goal.

"I hope to welcome many more people to the groups In the weeks ahead.

"The aim would be for other people, in other areas to use the same concept and create their own 'Friends of' group."

Join the group any Tuesday morning from 10.30am-noon at Wallasey Village URC.

The initiative is funded by local lettings company Levera Properties.
