A REUNION of ex-Clatterbridge Hospital staff had an 'overwhelming' turnout, say organisers.

The event, which took place at Prenton Golf Club on Friday night, was open to staff who worked at the hospital from 1970's to the 1990s.

They came from Australia, Spain, Ireland, Isle of Wight and Crawley, to name but a few, to be there.

Organisers Doug Baker, Sian Williams and Frances Mcmanus described the evening as a great success, adding they were bowled over by the response.

Frances McManus told the Globe today: "We were quite overwhelmed by the response.

"We put a notice on Facebook and in the Globe, expecting about 150 people to turn up. So, the 200 who did come along exceeded our expectations.

"Some staff had not seen each other for 40 years, and the oldest attendee is almost 90 years of age.

"There was lots of laughter, reminiscing and memories were shared of very happy days spent working at Clatterbridge Hospital.

"The Clatterbridge League of Friends are currently celebrating their 65th year and a substantial amount ( £600) was raised towards their target of £65,000 for this year."

On behalf of the organisers, Frances continued: "Our thanks go to all who worked towards putting this evening together, to those who attended and to the staff of Prenton Golf Club for looking after us so well.

"We plan to have another reunion soon."
