PORT Sunlight Players stage their production of The Sound of Music this week.
Directed by Jane Davenport and with music direction by Greg
Williams, the show at the Gladstone Theatre in Port Sunlight from this Thursday to Saturday, March 28 to 30.
Set in Austria in 1938, it is the tale of Maria, who takes a job as governess to a large family while she decides whether to become a nun.
She falls in love with the children and their widowed father, Captain von Trapp. He is ordered to accept a commission in the German navy, but he opposes the Nazis. He and Maria decide to flee from Austria with the children.
The show features songs including The sound of music, Sixteen going on seventeen, My favourite things, Do-re-mi and Climb ev'ry Mountain.
The original Broadway version of this musical opened in 1959 and the popular film, starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, was released in 1965.
Performances start at 7.30pm, with a 2pm matinee on Saturday.
