Residents have been left angered by late night roadworks.

The works, which started shortly before 10pm on Sunday and finished just before 11pm, took place on Muirfield Road and Linderick Avenue in Buckley.

It involved Flintshire Council’s highways department implementing parking restrictions by painting double yellow lines, but has left residents bemused at the time the work was done.

Muirfield Road resident Lynsey Burkhill said: “It woke the whole street up and everyone is going mad about it on our road.

"It’s ridiculous that if I was making that much noise the police would be knocking on my door but it’s okay for the council to employ someone to come and do it outside our homes when children are sleeping.

The Leader:

“I understand it needs to be done but it could have been done at more respectable time of 8pm or earlier.

“I don’t know why painting some double yellows would need to be so loud, but it was extremely noisy and with the flashing lights, they certainly made their presence known.”

A Flintshire Council spokesman said: “Works to implement the recently advertised waiting restrictions on Linderick Avenue, Buckley had been scheduled to commence on Sunday at 4pm, however, due to the inclement weather experienced across the region over the weekend the road marking contractor unfortunately fell behind schedule which resulted in works commencing at 8pm.

"[The] council would like to thank residents for their cooperation and to apologise for any inconvenience the works may have caused. The recent works have enabled the council to implement much needed safety improvements within the vicinity of Southdown Primary School.”
