VALE of Clwyd's Assembly Member was among those who greeted Wales' rugby heroes at the Senedd.

Following Wales’s incredible performance against Ireland at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday, Ann Jones met with the team to mark their triumphant 2019 Guinness Six Nations season.

The team clinched the Grand Slam after beating the Irish side 25-7, extending their record unbeaten run to 14 matches and seeing off coach Warren Gatland with his third Grand Slam since taking over the squad in 2007.

Mrs Jones said: “It is a privilege for us as the National Assembly for Wales, and for me as deputy presiding officer to welcome our successful Welsh rugby team back to the Senedd for a fitting celebration after a wonderful Six Nations Grand Slam.

“Their achievements are an inspiration and a demonstration of Wales’ proud sporting prowess.

“Warren Gatland and his side have once again lifted a nation and it is only right that we should thank them for it. As Grand Slammers, winning 14 consecutive games lifts us all as a nation.

“Winning is one thing – but winning with style is another and that’s just what they did.”
