A MAN has been arrested after a man was shot down as he carried his daughter in Beechwood last month.

Detectives were called at around 7.15pm on Thursday, February 7 following reports that a 35-year-old man had been shot in the leg after leaving an address in Edgemoor Close carrying his seven-year-old daughter.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment to serious but non-life threatening injuries.

His daughter was unhurt but left extremely shaken.

Police confirmed that a 26-year-old man from Birkenhead was arrested today (Wednesday, March 13) on suspicion of Section 18 wounding with intent, possession of a gun without a certificate and possession of cannabis.

He was been released on conditional bail pending further enquires.

The incident forced Birkenhead MP Frank Field to call for an urgent meeting with Merseyside Police's chief constable to discuss community safety issues in the area.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for anyone with information to come forward.
