THERE will be a chance to learn more about Wirral's past during a special event this weekend.

The History & Heritage Fair will be held at Birkenhead Town Hall on Saturday.

More than 70 stalls from local heritage attractions and societies will give visitors the opportunity to discover Wirral's fascinating past as part of this popular annual event, taking place between 10am–4pm.

Organised by Wirral History & Heritage Association, the event is free to attend.

As well as the many stalls, there will be vintage vehicles in Hamilton Square and visits from costumed characters bringing history to life.

There will also be bookstalls selling new and second-hand books.

Visitors planning on travelling on Merseyrail’s Wirral and Ellesmere Port lines are advised that replacement buses are currently in operation between Hooton and Hamilton Square and should allow extra time for their journey.

A spokesperson for the organisers said: "As Liverpool City Region Borough of Culture for 2019, Wirral will be hosting major cultural and sporting events in unexpected locations throughout the year, with a programme based around the themes of discovery, exploration and great outdoors – designed to showcase Wirral to the world."
