WORK has started on the restoration of a children's play area in Birkenhead.
Tollemache Road Play Park was closed for safety reasons, as the equipment and safety surfacing had become worn and no longer fit for purpose.
Labour ward councillors Brian Kenny and Steve Foulkes lobbied the council for funding to bring the park back into use.
The Council has carried out work which includes removal of the existing play equipment and safety matting.
The park's railings have also been painted.
The new play area is scheduled to re-open in May.
Cllr Kenny said: "I am delighted that, after much work behind the scenes, the Tollemache Road Play Park / Recreation Area is due to open again in May.
"This is a wonderful facility, which is much needed by the local community.
"I am sure it will bring many smiles to local young children, as well as their parents/guardians.
"I would wish to thank everyone who has helped us get back to this position. I can’t wait for the area to open again."
Cllr Foulkes added: "This facility has been much missed by the local community and will be well used and hopefully looked after."
