A SCHOOL that mistakenly sent details of a huge childcare bill to all parents has been defended by the mum affected by the mix-up, who says she has “no complaints”.

Staff at Mount Primary School in Wirral issued a “sincere apology” on Wednesday for the error that led to the £445.50 bill for after-school childcare being circulated to all parents.

But the mum for whom the email was intended said there is no bad blood, it is a “lovely school”, and that the entire situation has been “blown out of proportion”.

Mount Primary said this week it was an “administrative error”, adding it had breached personal data and the incident has been reported to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

But the parent, who wished not to be named, had nothing negative to say about the New Brighton facility.

She said: “I’m not living in poverty and I wholly accept that [the bill] was my responsibility. I owe that money, and it will be getting paid.

“It’s not even about forgiving them. Other parents might have thought it shamed us, but negative comments made about the school were nothing to do with me or my situation.

“It’s a lovely school and there’s no bad blood. The care afforded to my child has been absolutely impeccable and brilliant – they have been a great support.”

The story came after an email was leaked to the Local Democracy Service by a fellow parent, who accused Mount Primary of “shaming” the family.

But the mum said she didn’t see it that way at all, and will not be taking any action against the Merseyside school.

She said it was pleasing that the person who made the mistake contacted her “before [she had] even received the email”, and rejected any negative comments about the school made on social media.

“They couldn’t have been more supportive. I found it disappointing that some of the comments seem to have missed the bigger picture of everything that goes on in the school.

“What’s been lost on some people is that sometimes things like this happen. This is just an individual sending out a letter. It’s been blown out of proportion. It’s my information that’s been sent. People have acted like it’s theirs. But their views are not my view.”

She said she was told IT systems at the school have been changed recently, and now extra measures have been put in to ensure a similar error does not happen in the future.

Parents of all 300 pupils are believed to have received the email on Tuesday, which asked for the money to be paid by March 8, otherwise the pupil’s place at the club would be forfeited.

But the mum added: “I have a very, very high opinion of the school. They have supported me through a lot in the pastoral support they have given me.

“My child is very, very happy at that school. I have never had any complaints with them at all.”

Mount Primary’s full statement issued on Wednesday said: “An email was sent out by the school which breached the personal data of one of our pupils. This was an administrative error and we would like to apologise sincerely for our mistake.

“As soon as we realised what had happened, we contacted the parent of the pupil involved to explain and apologise for this error.

“We have also informed other parents of the breach and asked them to delete the email. The school has reported the breach to the Information Commissioner’s Office under General Data Protection Regulations, and we await their response.”
