A SPECIAL four-week programme of free events to celebrate the borough's past will be hosted by Wirral Libraries in April.

Organised to coincide with Local History Month, budding historians are invited to enjoy a selection of free events held across the area from April 1 to 29.

These events include talks about Cammell Laird, Victorian Wirral, railway builder Thomas Brassey and an exhibition of local photographs at Birkenhead Reference Library.

Cabinet member for culture Cllr Phillip Brightmore told the Globe: "Once again, Wirral Libraries have put together a fantastic programme of events to celebrate our unique and interesting past.

"I hope people from Wirral and beyond get together to enjoy this special series of talks, and make use of the historical resources our libraries have to offer."

The programme will also extend to Liverpool and Chester, featuring talks on the ‘Journey Over the Water’ at Bebington Library, and the Viking siege of Chester at Wallasey Central Library.
