A 64-year-old woman had her purse snatched out of a handbag while she shopped in Ellesmere Port.

The victim, from Neston, was out shopping at the Peacocks store on Mercer Walk at around 2.30pm on Saturday, January 26 when her purse was stolen from her handbag.

Police have now released a CCTV image of a man and woman they would like to speak to as they may have crucial information to help the investigation.

Detectives are urging anyone who recognises them or thinks they may know who they are to get in touch.

Sergeant Simon Hignett said: “We believe that the man and the woman in the CCTV image may have important information to help with our ongoing investigation into the theft of a purse in Ellesmere Port.

“The incident left the victim from Neston extremely upset and we are determined to establish who was responsible for the theft and make them face the consequences of their actions.

“I would also like to appeal directly to the pair in the image to get in touch.”

Anyone who recognises the man or woman, or the pair themselves are urged to call Cheshire police on 101 quoting IML 305031, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or submit information online https://cheshire.police.uk/contact/general-enquiries
