A SCHOOL catering supervisor from Heswall is set to spend the day working with Michelin Star executive chef Simon Radley at Chester Grosvenor Hotel.

Barnston Primary School's catering supervisor Gaynor Burns won a competition to be part of the national 'Host a School Chef' programme.

The scheme is a platform for caterers in schools to have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and knowledge.

Gaynor will travel to the five-star Chester Grosvenor Hotel on Thursday, February 21 to spend the day with Simon and his team.

She told the Globe: "I am delighted to be given this opportunity to spend the day with Chester Grosvenor executive chef Simon Radley and his team and have been counting down the days since we returned to school after the Christmas break."

Joining Gaynor will be Weaverham High School's assistant cook Julia Wood.

Edsential, who employ the two caterers, ran the competition for their schools during National School Meals Week in November 2018.

To win the prize, all cooks had to do was to send in a photograph of their roast dinner.

Head of catering at Edsential Tracy Moore said: “Well done to Gaynor and Julia, whose continued hard work made them worthy winners of our ‘National Roast Dinner Day’ competition.

"Professionally it offers our staff the chance to see first-hand how a restaurant kitchen operation operates and to work alongside a team that delivers at the top of its game every single day.”
