Police are appealing for information after a young boy was attacked and robbed in Oldham town centre. The attackers struck at around 6.20pm on Monday, February 4 when the 12-year-old victim was walking down Yorkshire Street and was chased by up to nine youths.

The offenders caught up with the victim on Bridge Street car park, where they punched him numerous times before stealing his mobile phone and fleeing the scene.

The boy was taken to hospital for treatment for injuries.

The main offender has been described as wearing a dark jumper with a logo across the chest at the time of the attack.

An investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing.

Detective Constable Matthew Adshead of GMP’s Oldham borough, said: “This was a nasty attack on a young boy who has been left extremely shaken and in need of hospital treatment as a result of his injuries.

“We are working hard to piece together the circumstances to find those responsible and ensure they are held to account for what they have done.

“I want to appeal to anyone who either witnessed the robbery, or has information about what happened, to please contact police immediately.
