A TEENAGE actress from Wirral is set to perform in her own play at a prestigious London theatre.

Freya Hannan-Mills, 15, was so frustrated with the lack of 'decent' roles for youngsters her age that she penned her own play called Swallow which is set to be performed at the Tristan Bates Theatre in Convent Garden on 27 and 28 February.

They play was picked by producers Actor Awareness to be part of the John Thaw season and is directed by Collette Murray.

Freya will star alongside Kate Kelly and Anna-Maria Everett in Swallow which tells the tale of a mum and daughter coping after the grandmother is struggling with a diagnosis of Progressive SupraNuclear Palsy - a rare brain disorder that causes issues with walking, balance and eye movements.

The play is something very personal to Freya who lost her own grandmother to the disease.

She told the Globe: "To be able to perform my own play in Covent Garden with such incredible actors is an unbelievable feeling and I'm humbled, to say the least. “The rush I feel on stage is indescribable – and as a burgeoning writer I appreciate the irony there.

"I adored my nana and it just felt right to lay out my feelings like this.

“My mother and I went through a harrowing journey and I wanted to share it with people who have been through a similar trial.”

This is not the first time that Freya has seen success, in 2017 she wrote a piece called Mushy Peas and Battered Bits for Jude Law to perform in Hammersmith.

Shortly after this, Freya won 'Best Short Film' category at the Film the House awards for Turning Tides and it even won an accolade at the Liverpool International Film Festival.
