BOMB disposal experts have tonight carried out the controlled explosion of a 'suspicious package' that was found inside a Wirral health centre.
Merseyside Police were called at around 2.45pm to the building in Townfield Close, Prenton. The area was cordoned off while the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) team attend to examine the package.
The controlled explosion took place at 5.30pm. Around 10 police cars were at the scene. Nearby businesses were evacuated as a precaution.
The package, wrapped in brown tape, contained screws and bits of metal.
A cordon remains in place outside the health centre as Crime Scene Investigators examine the scene.
Enquiries continue and anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact @MerPolCC or 101.
