A MAN is in hospital with non life-threatening injuries after what is believed to have been a 'targeted' shooting in Prenton last night.

The 35-year-old victim was leaving an address in Edgemoor Close with his seven-year-old daughter at around 7.15pm when he was shot, causing serious injury to his leg.

His daughter was uninjured but left extremely shaken.

Detectives are treating this incident as targeted incident but keeping an open mind as to its motive.

Detective Inspector Paul Gillies said: "This is an extremely shocking incident and I'm sure the community would agree that the anyone who is willing to use a gun this way in the presence of a child, needs to be taken off our streets and brought to justice.

"It is only through sheer luck that this child wasn't injured and I’m sure my outrage and shock is shared by all.

"I would therefore appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident or who has any information about it, no matter how insignificant you think it may be, to get in contact.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who was driving in the area at the time of the shooting, who might have dash-cam footage and would also be particularly keen to speak with anyone who saw a dark coloured estate driving in this area to get in contact."
