A HOYLAKE postie has raised more than £1,000 in memory of his sister-in-law by doing his postal round dressed as Freddie Mercury.

Billy Curley has worked for Royal Mail in Hoylake for around 14 years and on Monday, February 2 he dressed up as Freddie Mercury in Queen's I Want to Break Free music video in a bid to raise cash for St John's Hospice in memory of his sister-in-law Sam Curley.

On the day he collected more than £1,000 and is still receiving donations.

Sam, who was volunteer and training manager at The Hive Youth Zone in Birkenhead, passed away in October at the age of 49.

On Friday, February 15 her daughter Holly and mum Annette will be holding a charity night to give something back to the hospice for the support and care she received there.

Sam's husband Ron told the Globe: "My brother Billy has been amazing and supportive and he’s really excited to raise as much money he can.

"I just want to say a big thank you to him, customers and businesses who have donated so much in memory of Sam.

"The support we have received has been unbelievable, with Billy collecting more than £1,000 in offline donations and we still have money coming in.

"The hospice was amazing to my wife and great to my entire family, so we just want to give back a little of the care they give everyday."

The Valentine's Charity Ball for Sam will take place at Leasowe Castle on Friday, February 15 to raise funds for Wirral Hospice St John's.

Tickets are £15 and are available by emailing Holly at Hol_Curl@live.co.uk or visit https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/samcurley
