TRANMERE Rovers have signed defender Sid Nelson from Championship side Millwall on loan until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old centre back, who has made more than 100 senior appearances, will link up with Micky Mellon's squad ahead of this weekend’s trip to Port Vale.

Nelson, who has played 24 times already this season for fellow League Two side Swindon Town, has played in the Championship, League One and League Two since making his debut for Millwall in December 2014 against AFC Bournemouth.

Announcing the news on Rovers' website this afternoon, manager Micky Mellon said: "We are really pleased he has signed, he is a player we have known about for a while.

"We believe he will add something to the group and give us a good opportunity of winning games.

"He is enthusiastic, and he wants to defend well, he is aggressive, and he is ambitious.

"He is highly thought of at Millwall and everywhere he has gone, everyone speaks very highly about him.

"Sid will be good to work with and we will help him to develop so it is a win-win for everyone involved.

"Sid has played a lot of games for such a young man, more than 100 matches in the Championship, League One and League Two which is a lot for someone of his age playing in the position that he does.

"It is a big tick for us as he is not experiencing his first loan and he will come in and hit the ground running.

"We are delighted Millwall have let us have one of their best young players."
