A FOURTH arrest has been made after a driver suffered serious head injuries during an attack in Birkenhead.

Emergency services were called at around 2.55pm on Monday, January 14 to the junction of Exmouth Street and Claughton Road following reports that something had been thrown at a black Jaguar car.

It is believed that the driver, a 49-year-old man, got out of the car and four males attacked him.

The driver sustained a serious head injury and was taken to hospital.

On Wednesday police revealed that the man remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.

The incident occurred just metres away from where Prince Harry and Meghan were visiting just a short time before.

A 28-year-old man from Birkenhead was arrested today (Thursday, January 17) and is currently being questioned by detectives.

Three men aged 25, 21 and 19-year-old who were arrested in connection with the assault have all been released on bail.
