A THIRD man has been arrested after a driver suffered serious head injuries after an attack in Birkenhead.

Emergency services were called at around 2.55pm on Monday, January 14 to the junction of Exmouth Street and Claughton Road following reports that something had been thrown at a black Jaguar car.

It is believed that the driver, a 49-year-old man, got out of the car and four males attacked him.

The driver sustained a serious head injury and was taken to hospital.

On Wednesday police revealed that the man remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.

A 25-year-old man from Birkenhead was arrested on suspicion of section 20 assault.

He has been taken to a local police station for questioning.

The incident occurred just metres away from where Prince Harry and his wife Meghan were visiting just a short time before.

Detectives are still appealing for information and witnesses to come forward to help them with their investigation.
