THERE was queuing traffic at the Birkenhead and Wallasey tunnels following a collision in Liverpool earlier this morning.

The incident had closed one of the city's main roads New Islington this morning, but led to a backlog of vehicles in the tunnels.

Traffic is now returning to normal.

Travel monitors INRIX said the road was "blocked on A580 New Islington in both directions at Shaw Street" and "now emergency services are at scene the road has been closed bothways."

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service say they were called to the crash by Shaw Street at 6.32am.

They said two vehicles were involved but nobody was trapped.

Firefighters left the scene at 7am.

Police confirmed just after 8am that "emergency Services are currently in attendance of a two-vehicle road traffic collision involving a Renault Kangoo and an Audi."

There are also reports that a lorry has shed its load near the Wallasey tunnel.

We are waiting for more details on this.
