TWO men have been arrested after a man suffered serious head injuries in Birkenhead.

Emergency services were called at around 2.55pm on Monday, January 14 to the junction of Exmouth Street and Claughton Road following reports that something had been thrown at a black Jaguar car.

It is believed that the driver, a 49-year-old man, got out of the car and four males attacked him.

The driver sustained a serious head injury and was taken to hospital where police say, his condition is critical.

A 21-year-old man and a 19-year-old male, from Birkenhead, were arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault and are being questioned by detectives.

The incident occurred just metres away from where Prince Harry and his wife Meghan were visiting just a short time before.

Detective chief inspector Robbie Moss said: “Our investigation into this incident continues and we remain very keen to speak to anyone with any information that could assist our enquiries.

“I would ask anyone who was in the Exmouth Street and Claughton Road area who witnessed the incident and has yet to come forward, or who has any mobile phone footage, to please get in touch.

“I would also ask those who may have been driving it the area at the time to please check and send in any dashcam footage.

"You may have captured the incident, or people making off from the scene and your footage could prove as vital information.

“A 49-year-old man has been left in a critical condition and we are committed to bringing those responsible to justice.

"We know it was a busy time of day with many people in the area and anyone with any information, no matter how small is asked to contact us."
