A MAN has died after falling from a wall into water in New Brighton

Emergency services were called at around 9.50pm on Monday, January 7 following reports someone had fallen into the water nearby Travelodge Hotel at Marine Point.

A 36-year-old man was rescued by HM Coastguard but died a short time later.

His next of kin have been informed.

Police say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a file has been prepared for the coroner.

On Facebook, Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team said: "We can now confirm that last nights incident attended by the team was a tragic one.

"Despite the best efforts of the Coastguard Rescue Officers who entered the water in difficult conditions to rescue the man and then attempted resuscitation with our Fire and Rescue Service colleagues, the man sadly passed away.

"Our thoughts go out to the man's family and friends at this difficult time."
