A 36-YEAR-OLD man from Bootle has been charged with a number of offences following a domestic incident at a property on Wastdale Road, Moreton, in the early hours of Friday, 4 January.

Michael Woolvine of Tennyson Street, Bootle, has been charged with Section 18 assault; two charges of assault by beating, drink driving and dangerous driving.

Police were called to reports of domestic assault just before 3am on Friday morning and when they arrived at the address they found that a 28-year-old woman and her seven-year-old child had both been assaulted.

The woman had sustained a serious deep laceration to her right eye and had been threatened with a knife.

The offender left the address in the victim's car and was arrested in Seaview Road, Bootle, following a short pursuit after the car was spotted on Scotland Road heading towards Bootle.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "Within minutes of the pursuit starting the car collided with two other vehicles on Seaview Road.

"Officers got out of their car but the male was still trying to force the car through the two cars he had collided with.

"As a result officers had to smash the driver’s side window and use a Taser to facilitate his arrest. Merseyside Police has instigated the normal post incident procedures following the deployment of the Taser and the male was taken to hospital as a precaution."

He will appear at Merseyside Domestic Violence Remand Court on Monday.
