A DISPERSAL zone will be put in place in West Kirby this weekend as part of a police crackdown on anti-social behaviour.

The zone will come into effect from 5pm on Saturday, January 5 and end at 11pm on Sunday, January 6.

The dispersal zone covers the area between Red Rocks and West Kirby Sailing Club, eastbound to Monks Way and includes all of West Kirby village.

The zone has been brought in under Section 34 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 which gives police officers and police community support traffic officers powers to direct anyone over the age of 10 they suspect are causing or likely to cause crime, nuisance or anti-social behaviour to leave the area for up to 48 hours.

If a person has been directed to leave the area and returns during the period of the dispersal notice, an offence will have been committed.

Any breaches of this can lead to their arrest.

A police spokesman said: "Merseyside Police is committed to reducing incidents of anti-social behaviour in local communities.

"If you require police assistance in an emergency situation we can by contacted by dialling 999 and in non-emergency situations via 101."
