THREE mums saw in the new year by welcoming their newborn babies at Arrowe Park Hospital.

Proud parents Emily and Aaron Pickthall from Wallasey, welcomed Vincent, who was born, weighing 8lb 110z, just 20 minutes after Big Ben sounded the start of 2019.

Emily told the Globe: "He is much loved by all family and friends especially his older sister Indie Grindley, aged three."

Diane and Dave McMillen from Port Sunlight also said hello to their daughter, born a healthy 7lb 15oz, at 5.20am, shortly after they arrived at the neonatal unit.

Olivia Culpin from Prenton had an early birthday present with the arrival of son Teddy just after 9am.

Recalling her daughter's birth, Diane told the Globe: "It was very quick, but all is well. It happened so fast that we haven't even given her a name yet.

"It was a bit of a dash really. We woke up in the early hours and dropped our other daughter off at her grandparents then went off the hospital.

"We got to Arrowe Park just before 5am and our beautiful baby was born not long after."

Praising the neonatal unit's staff, Diane said: "We've had both of our children at the unit and the staff have been brilliant."

Olivia Culpin's son Teddy, born 8lb 1oz is pictured with midwife Helen Burghall. Olivia said: "He was born, a day late, by emergency Caesarian Section and is doing well. I was in great hands at the hospital.

"My birthday is January 3, so Teddy is the best birthday present I could ever have."

Gaynor Westray, director of nursing and midwifery at Wirral University Teaching Hospital Trust, told the Globe: "I would like to say a big congratulations to the parents whose babies were born at our hospital on New Year's Day.

"It really is a privilege for us to be part of such a special day for parents and this is no doubt a fantastic and busy start to their New Year.

"I wish all the babies the very best as they return home with their families."
