I spent seven hours in A&E last Saturday, leaving at 8.30pm with a clean bill of health but still feeling poorly, the service and care l received was fantastic, thanks to Dr Rachel and her colleagues.

l then, on leaving, encountered an avoidable nightmare.

I firstly discovered we didn’t have enough change for the car parking machine. The bank card paying facility have been disabled on the machines.

The machine doesn’t give change, you have to return during the day with your receipt for a refund. I went to the cash dispenser which was only dispensing £20 and the pay stations don’t take £20, at that time everywhere was shut, so we had to go around the general public to get together our exit fee.

We thought we’d managed it only to find that the pay stations don’t take 5 pence pieces.

A kind member of A&E reception gave us 5p.

With the money made from car parking surely we should have a working paying system including via bank card.
