THE annual Boxing Day 'Tug O'War' will take place on Hoylake promenade again this year to raise cash for the RNLI.

Founded by Hoylake Sailing Club's Arthur Slater and former RNLI coxswain Danny Triggs, the Tug O'War is in its 46th year and hundreds of visitors have gathered to watch the RNLI Hoylake Lifeboat crew battle it out against the Hoylake Sailing Club team.

The winning team will receive the coveted Slater Trophy; a small teapot which has each of the winning team names etched onto it.

This year the event will commence from 12pm outside Hoylake Sailing Club.

RNLI coxswain Andy Dodd said: “It’s great to see what started out as a bit of fun has become a meaningful event in the community’s calendar.

"A tug of war is such a simple thing, but it’s so entertaining.

"I can barely remember a Boxing Day without it and it gets bigger and better every year!”

The event is free and RNLI collectors will be volunteering their time to raise cash to support the local lifeboat station.
